Marriage Works is brought to you through a grant from the Ohio Strengthening Families Initiative. Together, by pulling pastors and the community together, we are able to reach out to couples in a community-wide effort to strengthen relationships and make Marriage Work.
We are developing Community Marriage Policies in Wayne, Medina and Stark Counties to ensure healthy relationships. We are building community coalitions to help stabilize marriages and reduce divorce rates, enhancing positive and sustaining marital relationships. By joining together, this will ultimately reduce out-of-wedlock birth rates, and improve child well-being, an effort that will better the communities in which we live.
Unhappy marriages often result in fighting, violence, divorce, and broken homes that result in broken hearts. Divorced families and single parent families put their children at a much-greater risk for infant mortality, child abuse, suicide, and their altogether physical health and well-being are severely compromised; and, male children are much more likely to be incarcerated when they reach adulthood. As a community, as pastors, church leaders, community leaders and individuals, we have to take this information into consideration and help to stop the cycle that couples are falling into. Wayne County alone has a 65% divorce rate.
With healthy marriage as our focus, we are committed to families, and we are committed to caring for, instructing and improving the social, physical, psychological and educational aspects of children and their families. We’re committed to educational reinforcement, economic development, unity empowerment, health maintenance, cultural awareness, family building and also a value system.
Marriage Works Ohio is based on research-based model programs. Our marriage education concepts include the DNA of Relationships for Couples, an intensive conference brought to you by Robert S. Paul and the National Institute of Marriage, and the P.I.C.K. and F.A.C.E.S. Programs are brought to you by Dr. John Van Epp, founder of the “How Not to Marry a Jerk” training programs. We are using the Prepare-Enrich comprehensive program, and training marriage mentor couples.
